The Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement project will begin with the construction of two new decks over a portion of the Dyer Avenue roadway. This initial phase will serve two critical needs: providing space for bus operations and passenger services during construction and creating future open space for the community. Once complete, the Port Authority will use the decks for various essential functions–including bus operations and passenger services while the new Main Terminal is under construction. When the Main Terminal is completed, the decks will be converted into 3.5 acres of publicly accessible open space, helping to reconnect portions of the community that were previously divided by the current structure.
Dual-Purpose Deck Overs
The Dyer Avenue deck-overs project includes the construction of two decks over the below-grade portions of Dyer Avenue and the Lincoln Tunnel Expressway located between West 37th and West 38th Streets and West 38th and West 39th Streets. The deck overs will:
- Be the first step (Phase 1A) in the construction of the new Midtown Bus Terminal.
- Serve as a staging area for buses and passenger services during construction.
- Be transformed into 3.5 acres of publicly accessible open space upon completion of the main terminal.
