The New Terminal A

The new $2.7 billion Terminal A, whose first phase was completed in 2023, is the cornerstone of Newark Liberty International Airport's development plan. The opening of the airy 1 million square foot, three-level terminal kicked off the airport's renaissance, a long-term effort to remake the nearly century-old airport into a world-class gateway for the New Jersey and New York region. The new terminal replaces the previous terminal that opened in 1973 with a design that accommodates the 15 million passengers a year who use the terminal while leaving room for future growth. It features 33 gates, light-filled concourses, state-of-the-art digital technology, modern passenger amenities, superior dining and retail options, and inspiring art that showcases local artists. Terminal A represents a new standard for operational efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainability that has launched the journey for a reimagined EWR.

The $2.7 billion Terminal A represents New Jersey's largest design-build infrastructure project. The project was a collaboration by Tutor Perini/Parsons JV for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with Grimshaw as the design architect in partnership with architecture and engineering firm STV as executive architect. Munich Airport NJ LLC operates the terminal and manages airport operations, concessions, and maintenance.
