Streamlined Roadways & A New Ground Transportation Center

John F. Kennedy International Airport is undergoing a $1.24 billion project to redesign its roadway network and build a state-of-the-art ground transportation center as part of its $19 billion transformation into a world-class airport. This ambitious initiative will simplify airport access, enhance connectivity, and provide modern infrastructure to support the growing demands of one of the busiest airports in the world.

The project includes the design and construction of an on-airport roadway system featuring reconfigured roadways, enhanced traffic technologies, intuitive wayfinding, and critical infrastructure like retaining walls, bridges, and upgraded utilities. The centerpiece of the project is a modern, eco-conscious Ground Transportation Center, which will house 1,950 parking spaces, electric vehicle charging stations, and a 400-foot elevated pedestrian bridge with a bicycle lane, pedestrian canopies, and provisions for food trucks. Sustainability is at the forefront, with a rainwater harvesting facility for landscape irrigation and energy-efficient roof provisions for future solar paneling.

Upon completion in December 2027, in line with new terminal construction, the project will simplify the current complex roadway network and create streamlined, easily navigable access to all terminals. The new transportation hub will serve as a central point for passengers connecting to taxis, for-hire vehicles, mass transit, and parking. These upgrades will not only improve airport access but also enhance the overall travel experience while supporting uninterrupted operations throughout construction.
